We are finally making some progress folks.
Not to long ago I wrote my congressmen and the Whitehouse about this issue. It is about time we start moving into this. It will save government, business, and schools millions of dollars each year if pornography is forced to use .XXX. Below is the article I found today.
Web porn rated .xxx - Technology - International Herald Tribune: "Web porn rated .xxx

WASHINGTON The Internet's primary oversight body has approved a plan to create a virtual red-light district that would enable pornographic Web sites to use new addresses ending in .xxx.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers said it would begin negotiations with ICM Registry, run by the British businessman Stuart Lawley, to iron out technical issues and prices for the new Web addresses.
Pornographic sites, a $12 billion industry, could begin buying .xxx addresses as early as this autumn, depending on ICM's plans, Kieran Baker, the Icann spokesman, said. The new pornography suffix was among 10 under consideration by the regulatory group, which also recently approved addresses ending in 'jobs' and 'travel.'
ICM contends that the .xxx Web addresses, which it plans to sell for $60 a year, will keep the material away from children, if pornographic sites adopt the suffix so that filtering software can more effectively block access. The $60 price is roughly 10 times as much as other kinds of companies pay for .com names.
'It will further help to protect kids,' said John Morris, staff counsel at the Center for Democracy and Technology here.
Morris predicted that some pornographic sites would choose to buy .xxx Web addresses but that others would continue to use .com.

1 Comments:
I read a news brief in the Agape Press last week that indicates some in the Christian community are opposed to this: "...A pro-family attorney says it's not too late to stop implementation of an Internet domain designed just for pornography. If approved, the new Internet domain .xxx will open up a whole new world of Internet addresses to pornographers. Contrary to what has been said, Pat Trueman with the Family Research Council says porn will not be limited to the triple-x domain. In fact, he says it will only worsen the porn problem in homes. But he encourages individuals to let their opinion be known on the triple-x domain. "It is not final," Trueman says. "Even though the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers -- which is the corporation that governs the Internet -- says they intend to start a triple-x domain, they have to give final approval to it and the U.S. Department of Commerce, under President George Bush, has to give its approval to it." Trueman says people need to "weigh in" with both agencies. "I believe we can beat this," he adds. The e-mail address to contact the U.S. Commerce Department is publicaffairs@ntia.doc.gov. I fail to see why there would be resistance. Though not perfect (it does allow access to internet porn), it gives parents the capability to block access to a whole group of sites.
Maybe I'm missing something. I'm confused!
